APC is a
non-profit all volunteer organization helping families looking
to adopt as well as those who have adopted for over 50 years.
We provide information and support to families. We meet once
a month during the year except during December and the summer
months. However, we are always available by phone if anyone
needs our support during those times.
PLEASE
NOTE...
If you
must bring your children to the General Meeting, you are
responsible to supervise them. Children must be accompanied
by an adult at all times. Thank you for your cooperation.
FUNDRAISING –
As we are
a non-profit organization, we do count on fundraising to help
us to support our activities. We can always use monetary
donations as well as donations of items that we can raffle at
our meetings. We can make gift baskets out of small items, so
new items of almost any type would be greatly appreciated.
(i.e., candles, bath and body products, gourmet food items).
Cameras, DVD players, or other electronic items as well as
gift cards/certificates to restaurants and stores are great
items to raffle. If you have a connection in any of these
areas, please THINK OF US. Call Dawn Hernandez at

CHILDREN’S RELIEF AND WAITING CHILDREN
– There are so many children right here and all over the world
who need our help. It takes so little effort to make a big
difference in a child’s life. The next time you are at the
doctor’s office, ask for some samples of medicines. Perhaps
you can buy some nice shampoo and lotions while they are on
sale so that a young teen can have something other than the
generic brand that the group home might provide. How about
purchasing a gift card from a fast food place the next time
you stop by? A child in care usually does not have too much
extra spending money. This gift card would ensure that he or
she would be able to go to the restaurant with his or her
friends and not look like the odd man out. The unwrapped
happy meal toy that your child does not really want or need
would be a wonderful thing to donate to a child in an
orphanage. The ideas are endless. Please call Trish Polk at

DUFFLE
BAGS –
We are
always collecting NEW duffel bags for the children in the
foster care system on Long Island. These kids are often moved
from one home to another or eventually moved into their
forever families, but are given garbage bags to move their
belongings in. This is very degrading and lowers their self
esteem yet another notch. We have been collecting duffle bags
for them and supplying the surrounding counties with these
bags for over five years now. If you are interested in
donating a NEW bag, please bring it to the general meeting.

ADOPTION
AWARENESS & EDUCATION
–If your
school or organization is doing a community project or need
projects for a certain award, APC has a few members available
to come and speak to your group. Call Trish Polk at
516-541-4822.
HELP
NEEDED –
Could you
spare an hour once a month before our General Meeting starts
to greet people and hand out flyers & agendas? If we can get a
few people to volunteer, then we can rotate the months you
would be needed. We also need someone to set up and take down
the PA system at our General Meetings. Please call Caryl
