Pre-Adoption:      Adopting From China

Guest Speaker:   Michelle Unger, Regional Director for Great Wall China Adoption

 

Michelle Unger is the proud mother of five children.  Her daughter was adopted from China in May 2007 and she is also a host parent to a Chinese exchange student.  Michelle received her Masters Degree in Gifted Education from Columbia University and has worked professionally in elementary education and as the Regional Office Director for Great Wall China Adoption.

 

During this workshop, Michelle will discuss China’s adoption process, eligibility requirements and timeline.  Participants will learn how to promote their child’s culture after adopting and special needs adoptions will be explained as well.

 

 

Post-Adoption:   School Issues – Preschool through High School Graduation

Guest Speaker:   Leslie Zindulka, SSWS, LCSW-R.   

 

Leslie Zindulka, SSWS, LCSW-R is a New York State Licensed Clinical Social Worker.  She received her undergraduate degree in Social Welfare from SUNY Stony Brook and her Masters of Social Work degree from Columbia University.  She is Hague accredited agency affiliated and her private practice focuses on adoption home studies and birthmother consultations.  Additionally, she holds a School Social Worker Specialty credential.  She is the proud parent of three children, two of which were adopted domestically.

 

This workshop will focus on adoption related school issues from preschool age through high school graduation.  Participants will learn how to deal with the age old question “to tell or not to tell”, learn how to handle school assignments, learn ways to advocate for your child’s special needs, and how to respond to common myths that teachers may believe as fact.
